This wine will go out with a bang as the last of four bottles expires finally. In stark contrast to the 17.5% abv 'experiment' we had over the weekend this was a light 13.5 and was showing its 2ndary and tertiary flavors. A caramelized, sweet, honey nectar bouquet, it's all about dried cherries, firm gliding tannins. Probably a touch of cloves/nutmeg, and definitely braised meats. Even though popped and poured it was singing and only louder now as the evening goes on. A hair off opaque, slightly translucent. Slowest legs ever. To say it punched above its $13 weight class is an understatement. A delicious antithesis to high abv in your face new world expressions. Drink now or soon.
Delicious Rioja. Ripe extracted black raspberry fruit soaked in black cherry liqueur. Notes of pine resin add complexity. Fine grained tannins nicely integrated even though noticeable grip. Well-balanced with good, lengthy finish. Age suiting this nicely!
