Drink Dates 2012

Decanted this one and tasted at pop, an hour in and then three hours in. Wasn't all that tasty until three hours- seemed tight and rather dull fruit. After three hours, it really opened. Perfumed nose with floral notes as well as port and cedar. This wine was a good solid cab, but not exceptional like other Blankiet bottles have been. This is drinking fine now and is unlikely to improve but it will last for another 8+.

Drink Dates 2012-2014

Tight, with spicy currant, herb, cedar, mineral and herbal leather notes. Complex but restrained, this is balanced, yet leaves you hoping for more richness and depth. Needs air. Best from 2009 through 2013. 1,300 cases made

Big, dense, age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon. Dark purple color on rim continues with hues of violets and blues throughout the wine bowl. Huge volumes of aromas rise from the glass: blackberry, espresso, graphite, dark chocolate, toffee and cassis. The entry explodes with flavor and then wine opens in the center with weighty richness and finishes with focus. Long finish of black truffle and blackberries.

We had this as part of a Cabernet Sauvignon tasting on 10/3/09. It was spectacular with a very sweet bouquet of cassis, cherry, raspberry, coffee, toast and baking spice aromas. The palate was very balanced, smooth and dry with flavors that follow the nose. It was fabulous, but still too young.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
