Producer Notes

Chateau Beaucastel, run by the Perrin brothers, is regarded as one of the best estates of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. At 131 hectares of vineyards, it is also one of the largest estates in the region. Great week night table wine, with enough complexity to match with most meals. Good berry fruit upfront with balanced acidity.

On the nose, aromas of cherry, raspberry, vanilla cream, and a curious smell that I could only describe as watermelon were detected. Dry, light, and smooth, the palate exhibited tastes of fennel, licorice root, tea, and what can be described more completely as watermelon rind. Surely, this wine would make a wonderful complement to many types of food.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
