completely dead. Cork was perfect. Fruit non-existent and wine was flat. Guess I waited too long. Other older ridge zins have been fantastic, not sure what happened here.

Spicy and brambly on the nose, with hints of dust and dried herbs, this dark garnet zinfandel is still rich in fruit reminiscent of blackberry liqueur though well balanced with acid and mature tannins. This is a classic style zinfandel - not overly-alcoholic or too weighty on the fruit - but well composed and tasting great in 2011.

Well balanced - great depth of flavor. Strong fruit. Smooth and complex.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
