One of eighteen Fifth Growth estates, Chateau Pontet-Canet is located in the northern end of the Pauillac appellation, and has one of the largest production volumes in the region. Nice colour. The nose start of subtile with purple fruits. Taste is very solid structure, with some peppers and lively tannins which make the wine quite fresh. The finish is medium with purple fruits. At 33 euro's this is quite expensive for the wine. This is the second wine of the famous classed pontet canet, but a bit overpriced for the score of 89+

This is a big Bordeaux with excellent concentration and a long finish. It is deep ruby / crimson, and has a good opaqueness. The nose has smells of black fruits (particularly blackcurrant), liquorice, and prune as well as a woody cedar note. As I said, this is a concentrated wine and has notes of black currant, cocoa, sweet tropical fruits, tobacco, vanilla and warm spice. It has a tannic structure that should prove good for further aging. Very good.

Drink Dates 2009-2015

Mostly fruit at this stage but some stable emerging. Perfect food wine right now. Well-made second wine with good value.
