Red Bordeaux Blend - Fifth Growth
Producer Notes

Located just outside the town of Pauillac, Chateau Lynch Bages is famous for its Cabernet-based wines, which typify the best of the appellation. The estate is classified as one of eighteen Fifth Growths from the official 1855 classification; many experts, though, would argue that its quality merits it a place among the Second Growths. Typical Lynch-Bages reveals a wonderful bouquet, rich tannins,... More »

Reasonably deep ruby red colour. No real legs to speak of but a decent halo around the edge of the glass. Berries, plums and a background of chocolate. A relatively easy going wine and certainly very approachable from the outset. Starts light, builds on the palate with enough tannins to hold it together well, however not a big wine. Surpringly good finish. I quite liked it, a great compromise wine for some one who likes bigger wines but is drinking with a friend or partner that wants something lighter. Lovers of big wines probably wouldn't choose it alone but won't regret sharing one.

Best after 2014. Still a baby and unevloved. Simply needs 4-5 yrs time in bottle to develop complexity and the minerality that makes Lynch-Bages uniques. It has the components, the purity, high quality frit and the toasty oak. On the nose is pure finesse.By 2014 the score shall be 5-6 pts higher easily.

Aromas of currant bush and raspberry follow through to a medium-bodied palate, with velvety tannins and a medium finish. A balanced and pleasing wine already.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
