Producer Notes

Chateau Beaucastel, run by the Perrin brothers, is regarded as one of the best estates of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. At 131 hectares of vineyards, it is also one of the largest estates in the region. It is atypical of the appellation in its production techniques. It is one of three estates to produce and vinify all 13 grapes permitted under the regulations of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Deep ruby colored with an aroma of black fruit, spices and herbs and a pleasant earthiness. On the palate the wine was full bodied, dense and nicely textured with nicely blended tannins. Good finish.

Simply delicous on the nose, fabulously gentle beginning, with a smooth accelleration to a long and satisfying finish. I noted spice, smoke, cherry, and other flavors. Very complex and satisfying. A great wine.

Mixed reactions; aromas were unexciting, but flavor was good, perhaps a little watery and stemmy. Really powerful grenache, which left me fairly zonked by the end. Mixed.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
