2003 Gruaud Larose Bordeaux Blend - France - Bordeaux - St Julien - Red - Second Growth

France - Bordeaux - St Julien

Red Bordeaux Blend - Second Growth
Producer Notes

The phrase "The King of Wines..." adorns its label, but this isn't Bordeaux Budweiser. In fact, St. Julien's Second-Growth-classified Chateau Gruaud Larose was known as "the wine of kings" back in the late 1700s and continues this legacy today. The most notable recent example is President Chirac serving 1990 Gruaud Larose to President Clinton at Parisian bistro L'Ami Louis in June, 1999. ... More »

After 10 years, this wine still holds form. Good plum & blackberry flavor with a hint of clove. The tannins are still giving good structure.

Dark ruby, purplish in color. Dark berries, toast, tobacco, espresso and some chocolate on the nose. Full bodied with full development of all flavors on the palate. The tannins were big but not in the way of the development of the other flavors. Great finish.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
