This wine is a knockout. I've gone through over half of my case now and it's JUST starting to really show. I was worrying before that it had oxidized, but after this bottle, I'd say it has a long way to go. Beautiful zin fruit, not showing its 9 years. Excellent clarity, hardly any fade. This is a lighter bodied zin, but excellent with food. It's lithe now, very smooth, showing fruit well. This is a wine that typically needs age and this vintage is no exception. For those who have waited, your patience is being rewarded.

76% Zinfandel; 18% Carignane; 6% Petite Sirah. Geyserville bottlings typically have an uncanny knack for being very ripe, very deep and quite friendly at one and the same time, and this rich, fully extracted effort is all of the above. It brings together loads of brambly, blackberry fruit, creamy oak and subtle notes of dark chocolate, and it sports just enough tannin to give spine to its essentially supple style. Its accessible richness is bound to tempt early drinking, but, as experience has repeatedly taught with this property, the wine will develop famously for a good many years yet.

Smooth, dark and rich with just enough tannin and acidity to keep it interesting. Only Ridge can make a barbecue wine that seems sophisticated.

I was not a fan of this wine (and believe I was the only chap at the table that found it displeasing). The scents of brandy macerated fruit and hint of madeirization (I didn'tthink this was oxidized per se, but it hinted at the 'cooked? profile which I do not enjoy) was not compelling to me in the slightest. While the texture of the wine was quite round, I found this effort to be blowzy, amorphous and lacking any sense of precision. I am choosing not to pan the wine, considering it is a profile issue (and one of which others can certainly enjoy) but I cannot consider at anything more than acceptable. The somewhat clipped finish sealed the deal for me.
