Producer Notes

Ann Colgin, a former fine art dealer, began her label in 1992, and it quickly became one of the most sought-after names in Napa. Penetrating nose of flowers, graphite, cassis and a mineral laced soil component that was strangely reminiscent of a bottle of 01' Masseto I drank last year. Maybe it's the large amount of Merlot in this wine that bears that similarity. This wine was all about finess and balanced and a wonderful sense of terroir. Probably the biggest compliment I can pay is that I kept wanting to come back for another sip all night. 96pts.

Great wine! Good black fruits. Was a big hit. Still slight tannic grip on finish. I have another bottle I'll give more time.

Very dark red color. Elegant bouquet of blackberry, black currant, chocolate undertones, pepper, spices, and even some minerality. Thick and full bodied in the glass. The tannins blend in well and on the palate the wine develops some meaty characteristics in addition to all the scents from the bouquet. Fantastic, long lasting finish. This wine was a superb experience now but it will probably be great for the next 20 years.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
