Came across very austere & thin with hot alcohol character. Lacked fruit. The winery believes pre 2004 bottles are very inconsistent because of synthetic corks. This was definately a bad bottle, nothing left here but alcohol and a sharp mouthfeel.

After letting it air out for about an hour, fresh and clean aromas of sea air with an alcohol mist, some spice and licorice. Deep dark ruby color adds to its mystique. In the palate dense, packed full of sweet cherry, pommegranite, spice and a full mouthful of fruit. Slightly strong tannins, slightly herbal but with a long finish. Very nice!

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
