Big boy and big boned evident tannins. It went in and out of what seemed awkward phases tonight, almost shy at some points (after decant) so it seemed a little out of balance. The nose is subtle, but very complex. You really have to try and coax it out. A little more restrained than what I was expecting. Still delicious overall, just not outstanding. Not bringing it! Real score is more like a 90, but I know this will come around. Decanted 1 hour and then drank over 4 hours. Color: Dark red core with red edges. A little cloudy from sediment. Nose: Blackberry, minerals and flowers, some soy sauce, burnt orange peel, mocha dust, crushed all spice, subtle oak influence. Palate: Tannins are really pronounced. Integration is there but is struggling to stay balanced. Alcohol is a bit high at 14.7%. Don't love the texture, though great acidity. Blackberry, slate like minerality with crushed blackberry, really surprising for a Napa Cabernet to be so mineral driven. Bordeaux like, a cross between St. Julien and St. Estephe. I am befuddled as the previous tasting notes here are great, well written and typical of what I'd expect from this wine and this wine maker's style. Maybe just a dumb phase for this one but pretty delicate tonight. Just different than I was expecting. Good none the less.

Very nice young wine. Not super overpowering on the nose but lots of dark fruit and tannin. Could go another 10 years without a problem

Very dark garnet color with a few thick heavily pigmented legs. Reticent aromas of slightly candied cherry, cedar, a touch of vanilla, and "redwood" with a grace note of varnish. Better in the mouth with excellent depth of fruit, some wood, and a bit of heat on the finish. Rather disjointed at present. The Jericho Canyon Vineyard is a 40-acre vineyard located at the base of Mt. St. Helena northeast of Calistoga and is planted to Cabernet, Merlot, and Franc. Vines were planted in the vineyard in 1990 and 1993. Up until the 2001 vintage, Ramey made this wine for Rudd. With the 2001 vintage, the vineyard?s production has switched to Ramey?s own label. Ramey ferments the wine using wild yeasts and then bottles it without filtration.
