2001 La Rioja Alta - Vina Ardanza Reserva Especial Regional Blend - Spain - Rioja - Red

Terrific expression out of the glass, the nose is an array of pleasures. Very deft on the tongue, with a wonderfully persistent finish. I cannot think of a wine that offers what this does for $40. And I think it will run a bit.

This is pretty terrible. So much hype and after 2nd bottle in last year that's the same - too much oak, harshly acidic and out of balance and over the hill. The peddlers of this are pulling a fast one.

We absolutely love this wine. Medium bodied. Fruit is nicely balanced with oak. Mild tannins but enough structure that it still has some interest. Phenomenal value.

Secondary aromas. silky and elegant. Refined. Bright acid, some tannins. Red fruit, tobacco, tart cherry

Crimson in color. Medium rim variation. Medium legs. Medium/Full bodied. Polished texture. Medium finish.

Smooth Good

Approachable now, with 2 hour decant, but will really strut its stuff with 5 to 10 more years in the cellar. An excellent wine from a great vintage.

Heady and corpulent, showing dusty cherries, vanilla, cinnamon and clove. Ridiculously good without going over the top. Drinks like a quality bordeaux in a really ripe vintage. I love it, will buy more.
