Low US Retail is updated twice a month and excludes outlier listings. Detailed listings are sourced daily from our partner, Global Wine Stocks, and may include outliers. Auction prices are based on actual auction results (inclusive of buyer’s premiums) of 750ml bottle sizes only. As auction prices fluctuate from auction to auction and some wines have limited auction activity, the average auction price is updated twice a month and derived from a proprietary algorithm.

Issue Issue 127

($35) Full red. Aromas and flavors of dried red berries, plum, bitter cherry, cola and leather. Sweet, ripe and expansive on the palate, with an attractive sugar/acid balance. Finishes firm and persistent, with sweet, building, dusty tannins and a hint of leather. (Rose Importing, Crestwood, IL; Wine Emporium, Brooklyn, NY; Siema L.L.C., Springfield, VA)

Mid to deep crimson. Like a cross between walnut liqueur and leaf mould. Big and round and very full. This tastes decidedly New World-like rather than much like Brunello but it is very well made and well balanced. Just be aware of the style?. All French barriques apparently.

Fanti's deep, almost purplish-colored 2001 Brunello di Montalcino is a simple, one-dimensional offering showing notes of super-ripe, jammy dark fruit, raisins and licorice with good length and a soft, supple personality. Though well-made from a technical standpoint, it shows little of the complexity or pedigree that one expects from a Brunello.

Fabulous aromas of blackberry, cherry, meat and dried flowers. Full-bodied, with masses of velvety tannins and loads of fruit. This is a blockbuster. This shows fabulous everything. Very close to the legendary 1999.

Impressive, a more modern style of bdm, though classic notes and flavors come through. Color: dark rose edges, deep red core. Nose: notes of plum, balsam, cherry wood, spice and earth Palate: medium to full bodied, super silky and ripe tannins, decent acidity, this wine finishes long and full. Paired beautifully with a veal chop! (5 views)

Lovely but very closed even after hours of air, still seems young

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
