2001 Clos de Sarpe Bordeaux Blend - France - Bordeaux - St Emilion - Red

High levels of extract, but well balanced. Light acidity. Very earthy, light blackberry. Even though a 2001, still needs time. Will be fabulous in 5 years.

black currants, fresh blood, old books....this is pure from-nowhere-else-in-the-world bordeaux. dark to the point of opaque, dense and tannic this is nowhere near its peak. in fact, my remaining 5 bottles are going to some dark corner of the cellar. has the makings of something extraordinary.

Tasted this at our company staff meeting and was surprised how good it was. (Just found out it has a mid-90s Parker rating too). Merlot content (85%) comes through with high fruit extract, softened tannins (although will mellow further with time I suspect), dark purple color, long finish to savor, and black currant aromatics. I'm buying some when it shows up in our store ($69 or so).
