Spottswoode is one of the legends of the valley, producing a steady stream of outstanding wines. This vintage shows why it is one of my favorites. Aromas of dark chocolate, blackberry and cigar box spice. Concentrated yet elegant on the palate with spicy nuances to the black fruit centered flavors. The oak is polished and integrated.

Opened 2 hours prior to drinking; did not decant. Dark red color. Rich aromas of red fruits and some vanilla; this wine is still very primary. On the palate, this wine is very forward, yielding lots of fruit supported by smooth tannins ... also a fairly lengthy finish.

Spectacular fruit bomb, but too young relative to the 93 (which we also drank). Brian O. says wait 8 years ... it's definitely too you.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
