This medium-full bodied Bordeaux blend was certainly South African, with smokey aromas overlaying red and black berry fruit. For me the smoke was too reminiscent of a forest fire, though the wine itself held up well, with softened tannins supporting a elegant yet robust frame. Still with stuffing to last, proving this as one of South Africa's leading producers.

Dark purple, almost black. Aromas of dark fruit and some peppers. Lush, ripe fruit on the palate with a finish that was a little too tannic for my taste.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
