Dark berries, cassis, and musty on the nose. Full bodied with a lingering finish. tis well balanced wine will age for decades.

Straight out of the bottle I knew I had something special. Big fruity nose, mild tanins, a 30 second linger on the palate made this very smooth. Paired well with a poached beef tenderloin. One of the best wines I've ever tasted!

Drink Dates 2005-2013

I've been drinking these backwards - first 02, then 01, and now the 00. The 2001 is definitely my favorite of the three, but this wine is the most approachable right now. Very deep and dark, almost a vortex in the glass. A bouquet of bombastic, dark stewed and fresh fruits, lots of dill, and some cigar box. The palate is struck with taffeta tannins, more than a hint of alcohol, and still prevalent fruit. 1.5 minute finish that is characteristic of the HSS. Good wine.

The wine is loosing it's fruit. There is still wood and cassis on the palate. It was much better three years ago when I last tasted. Drink now.

Drink Dates 2005-2009

Deeply colored with a big nose of warm chocolate brownies and dark fruits. Very rich in the mouth with powerful but amorphous fruit. Tannins are light and well integrated. Quite forward and pretty ? as the best Napa 2000s are, this 2000 makes for rewarding drinking right now. The Hillside Select is aged for three years in French oak (Alliers and Troncais) before bottling, but the extensive oak aging never seems to be a problem due to the wine?s formidable concentration.
