Producer Notes

Silver Oak was founded in the early 1970s by Ray Duncan and Justin Meyer, a former winemaker with Christian Brothers. Drink Dates 2003-2011

The 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley is a medium-bodied, soft, attractive effort with plenty of herbaceousness along with notes of figs, plums, and red currants. Made in an up-front style, it begs to be drunk over the next 7-8 years.

Smooth and polished, with a mix of mature cedar, currant and cherry-scented fruit, framed by a dash of smoky vanilla- and coconut-shaded oak, but finishing with a complex mix of fruit and oak. 50,000 cases made.

Consummed because of being at the outside of the drink dates. While perhaps true, wine drank very nicely.

Overall, a smooth wine. Not much complexity to make note of. Not a standout in my cellar.

Good color with an oaky nose containing milk, game, and strawberry aromas. A bit thin on the palate but what is there is fairly plush. Tannins are smooth and integrated despite the oakiness that comes through in the aromas and flavors of the wine. As always, a serviceable Cabernet. 100% Cabernet aged for 25 months in American oak (50% new and 50% once-used).

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
