($80-$106) Good full red-ruby. Complex nose combines plum, mocha, minerals, tobacco and burnished oak. A bit tight on entry, then expands and explodes toward the back, showing dense, insinuating flavors of black fruits and licorice. Chewy, sharply delineated Pichon-Baron with excellent underlying backbone and broad, palate-coating tannins. An outstanding vintage for this estate.

Dark blackish ruby, more orange than the Pichon Lalande colour. Warm, integrated nose. Dense and beautifully balanced. Pure Pauillac without recourse to pastiche. Much riper than Pichon Lalande but not overripe. Already broachable but with potential too. Good stuff!

This is one of the great wines of the vintage, and certainly a candidate for one of the finest wines made at this estate under the management of Christian Seeley and proprietor AXA. Showing incredibly well at two tastings of 2000s, the wine has a dense bluish/purple color and a beautiful nose of incense, melted asphalt, and creme de cassis as well as hints of new saddle leather and licorice. It is superbly concentrated and very pure, with excellent texture and opulence. The acidity seems low, the tannin high but well-integrated. This is a compelling 2000 that is just closing in on its window of maturity and should stay there for at least 20 or more years. Bravo!

Fantastic aromas of currants, berries and hints of minerals. Cool and sleek. Full-bodied, with a lovely underbelly of ripe fruit and medium, silky tannins. Best Pichon Baron I have tasted since 1990.

Opened and double-decanted four hours prior to drinking. Brilliant deep red color. Aromas of black fruits, leather and tobacco. On the palate, lots of fruit and softening tannins, with incredible balance all the way through the finish. Decanting and letting this bottle take some air for 4 hours really helped it sing! I've had several bottles of Pichon Baron from the 90s; this bottle was by far the best!

Cedar/plum notes with good intensity. Fruit has diminished but, still balanced with softened tannins. Finish lingers & wine seems fully mature.

Excellent wine. I revisted this after being a little disappointed the past few times out. This was excellent this time out. Earthy gravity to it, good fruit still there and the tannins, which I sometimes find harsh in Pichon, were far smoother, whilst still keeping the robustness of Cabernet.

Amazing wine, powerful finish, a real Pauillac! I could see some sediment at the end of the bottle.

Opened for four hours, then decanted. Light silt in the bottom. Wow, a beautiful fragrance wafted up during decanting, and when poured is quite striking. Dark blue, light translucent rim, heavy glycerin legs. Aromas of pine forest, cedar, black berry, and a bit of stalkiness, confirmed on the palate with leather. Medium-full, and well balanced, bright acidity and tannins. Still tight, and primary, but slowly unwinding.

Darkly colored with a sumptuous nose brimming with black and red fruits, spice, and wood. The wine?s balance is impressive especially when one considers the wine?s evident power and composition. Tannins are significant however - the wine will need at least a decade in the cellar to really shine.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
