Emerging as my benchmark for a solid, upper mid priced CA cab. Not mind blowing but very good, lots of fruit. Whole package.

How big is this wine, 1 hr decanted and open powerful! typical of greatmontelena state. Well, fulll body, lots of black currant with sweet berries, mouthwatering tannins on a long long finish. the tannins could soften a little in the next 1-3 yrs and this wine shall enter in its very primezone from 2011-2015 and will live 10 yrs more after that. Is increadible how young still.

A little too soft. Hopefully needs a little more time.

Not the usual montelena cab, and not the same note as the 99 from a year ago. this bottle, out of 375, is a little disjointed, with lots of tannins, acidity, alcohol (almost too much alcohol) and fruit but it doesnt all come together. on the nose lots of coffee / mocha, with plenty of dark fruits and alcohol. i hope things come together over time, for now the grade is a 90 but incomplete. Given prior performance im inclinded to give it the benefit of the doubt.

Smooth, polished, rich fruit with well-integrated tannins and a luscious finish. Drinking very well right now and resembles an older grand cru bordeaux.

Silky and chewy, with hints of flint, chocolate and hay. Nice long finish. Will age well for another 10 years, but drinking exceptionally well now.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
