Red Cabernet Sauvignon
Producer Notes

From vineyards set 400 feet above the floor of Napa Valley, two critically-acclaimed powerhouse wines are crafted. Ruby-red. Ripe aromas of cassis, currant, shoe polish, loam and graphite. Supple, juicy and harmonious, with noteworthy sweetness and inner-mouth florals for the year. Finishes with smooth, ripe tannins and excellent length. This has turned out very well. An extremely impressive '98.

Drink Dates 2002-2018

The spectacular, full-bodied 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon (2,000 cases from a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Cabernet Franc) possesses great character, richness, and black currant fruit intermixed with licorice, tobacco, and smoke. While not as opulent as some vintages, it is exceptionally concentrated, long, and reminiscent of a ripe Bordeaux from a top vintage.

Well-proportioned, with a mix of generous plum, black cherry and blackberry fruit, anise, sage and cedar. The texture is supple and polished, with a long, complex finish. 2,300 cases made.

Drinking beautifully. Great fruit, nice balance, good tannins, still has another 5-7 good years.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
