Red Zinfandel
Producer Notes

Making "big reds" has been Larry Turley's passion since giving up his co-ownership of Frog's Leap Winery in 1993. Turley Wine Cellars is run by Larry and his wife Suzanne. Larry's sister, winemaker Helen Turley, made the wines here until 1995. Now the honor goes to Ehren Jordan, who also makes wines for Neyers. Drink Dates 2002

Turley?s first commercial release of a Zinfandel "Port". Black brown opaque color with a few thick very slow moving legs. A hot nose of turpentine, green wood shavings, brown sugar, raisins, and plum. Sweet mouth coating fruit and caramel flavors leads to a short finish. Moderate tannins and decent acidity. I would opt to drink this wine over the short term since I am concerned about the balance of the wine as it ages. 83 points. After leaving the opened bottle out for 24 hours, the wine improved significantly (86 points). As a result, I recommend splash decanting this wine and allowing it to rest in a decanter for at least four hours prior to consuming. Despite the improvement over time, the balance of the wine still concerns me.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
