Red Pinot Noir
Producer Notes

Manfred Krankl, an Austrian immigrant and Los Angeles restaurateur turned winemaker, is a reclusive and maniacally hard-working proprietor. His back-alley Ventura winery, dubbed the "garage d'or," has been described as "a junkyard (or the first or second level of hell)" and compared to a set from the movie "Mad Max" by Robert Parker. Starting it's decline at this point. But, still vibrant enough with good structure. The finish is beginning to fade at this point, however.

Drink Dates 2006-2011

A deep, slightly dusky, ruby red hue. An expansive but still burgeoning nose of walnut, plum, toasty oak, sandalwood, and mint with a touch of iron and blood. Very big on the palate but has the requisite acidity to keep things lively. A very long finish with plenty of fruit and oak churning through to the end. I remain disappointed that the Krankls have decided to end making Oregon Pinot Noir with the 2003 vintage. It is a great loss. Veiled?s quality only adds to my sorrow.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
