Tasted upon release: Warm and lush spiciness, black olives, smoky black cherry, plum and anise, with excellent acidity. As I noted earlier, when clients tasted this wine out of bottle next to the 1995, 1996 and 1997 vintages in a vertical tasting, they ordered the 1998 by a factor of 2 to 1 over any of the other vintages. I have tasted this several times with consistent impressions; still drinking beautifully.

Darkly colored with attractive though light aromas of cherry, slight smoke, and some earth. High acidity in the mouth with rather emaciated fruit. The wine finishes long with smoky earth and wood. Bordeaux styled ? a minor league Opus One?
