The winner of a small tasting of 1997 Bordeaux horizontal, it was the best from the beginning to finish. It opened quickly (unlike the Margaux) and stayed relatively constant throughout several hours. Wonderful subtlety, great and noble nose, earthiness, overall remarkable for what is considered to be not a great vintage. Tannins suggest can survive for many years.

Very smooth, but not overpowering. Very good for off-year. Ready to drinking now.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
