This bottle wan't at the par of past ones...bottle variation? who knows...what I knows it was more dry and low acidity than expected not too mention somehow tannic and monolithic. Hope to have other later this year in order to see or confirm this behavior.

Deep dark rich wine with a beautiful nose of blackberries, cedar and cassis, a great mouthfeel thick and vicious, nicely integrated tannins with a long luxurious finish. Drink now and for another five years.

NHL All Star game was paired with the 1997 Beringer Reserve and Stonestreet Cabs. We started with the Beringer which we let breath for 30 minutes before drinking. The wine was soft, had good color and body. Light berry flavors with a little oak. No great finish but a nice wine. The Stonestreet was similar in weight, color and body. The wine was not as round but had light berries and a little oak. Both were enjoyable and could be drunk a year or two from now. They won't get better with age at this point so why not drink now.

A very good bottle for this producer. Smooth, tannins absorbed. Lacks somewhat the concentration and depth of the stars of this vintage. I wouldn't wait: won't get much better.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
