1996 Leoville Las Cases Bordeaux Blend - France - Bordeaux - St Julien - Red - Second Growth

Not sure if it has not yet evolved or starting to fall apart. Previously was great but this bottle has intensity but little else. Tannins are hard to swallow. Will try again in 5 yrs.

Excellent but needs 10+ years. Had at my 50th Dinner.

Retail purchase, held 2 years. Soft cork, first LLC with even a hint of fault. Nose was muddy, descanting helped it, and I agree let it sit for a few hours, it builds and reveals layers and power in time. Nice color, a more elegant presentation of LLC than expected. Long finish. A step up from the 96 Clos du Marquis, both drinking very well. Long, balanced. Decant and serve in 3 hours.

Decanted 4 hours. A classical example of a St. Julien. Earthy, wet forest floor gives way to fruit. Hints of graphite, minerals and black fruit. An excellent wine to drink now, but will likely age nicely another decade or more.

drank 2 bottles over the holidays. still too early to drink. if you open now decant for at least 3-4 hours to get a sense of potential here.

Amazing.

Part of a blind tasting of Leoville Poyferre, Barton and Las Cases, 1982, 1990, 1996 and 2000 with Acker. The nose is sweet, creamy and delicious. Rich with caramel, cream and fruits subdued by the tannens. Nowhere near ready.
