Good red-ruby. Currant, red plum, wild strawberry, tobacco and tar on the nose, plus a faint gamey quality. Juicy and penetrating, but quite closed today. Very persistent on the finish, but the tannins are a bit tough. Conveys an impression of rather vigorous extraction.

Very impressive colour – really quite deep crimson – very solid and glamorous-looking! Rich nose, hints of compost, and definitely going into mature phase. Solid and sturdy and rewarding, Very slightly dusty tannins but excellent balance of fruit and acidity. Really impressive wine for drinking pretty soon. So long as you didn’t taste the Tâche immediately afterwards you would love it! The mellowest wine of this entire range?

Drink Dates 1999-2008

This medium-to-dark ruby-colored wine has gorgeous floral, perfumed, spicy, and refined aromatics. Its medium-bodied and silky-textured palate offers a fabulous burst of sweet cherries, candied strawberries, and violets. This lively, highly-defined wine also possesses a firm, supple-tannined structure that should allow it to age gracefully for years.

This beautifully round '96, made in a very spicy, oaky, tobaccolike style, shows subtle fruit along with menthol and vanilla. Long, persistent and clean finish. Tempting now, but to get the full experience, give it time.

No one would ever suffer from buying nothing but DRC, year in, year out and this lovely Echezeaux is no different, despite the increasingly dubious vintage. Not profound, just truly enjoyable.

Definitely mature. one of our two bottles was corked (bottle #0035), the other was the wine of the night, tasted against '96,'97, and '98 vintages of DRC Grands Echezeaux

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
