Drink or hold. For sure decant before drinking. Classic Pauillac.

Primary ruby red, the nose screams cassis, blackberry and sweet black cherry yet there are hints of cold campfire and pine needles with afterthought of mint. Very lively in the mouth with big acidity and slightly chewy tannin. Medium to full body, still needs more time but I'm concerned about the fruit, is there enough to come through after the tannin has softened? Only time will tell. This is a dry and rather austere wine at this point. Medium- length.

Powerful nose of blackcurrent, leather, earth, cigar box and lavender. A good amount of fruit and a medium finish. Drinking well in 2013. Outperformed by the 2000 vintage Pontet-Canet.

A little earthy at the beginning, but opened up nicely after decanting.

A proper 1996. Well integrated and displaying the strength of the vintage, the fruit quality of P-C, and the evolution of a perfectly preserved bottle. Complex on the nose, by far the most complex of the evening, with cassis, dark fruit, noble leather, and forest floor. Medium-full, long, a large frame, nice acidity and holding nice tannins on the finish. Excellent. Textbook classic. Love it.

Well balanced wine with soft tannins and medium acid that drove the flavors across the palate. This is what I expect the 82 tasted like ten years ago: still all of the wood and leather, but balanced with dried fruit and even some vegetal flavors. Long finish.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
