Felsina, for all of its current, well-deserved respect and fame, is the product of an ancient and humanitarian history. In the 12th century this estate was a roadside hospital directed by Benedictine monks who tended to the pilgrims and merchants traveling the Strata de Rancia.

Tasted On 05/30/2007

Drank the Felsina Rancia, then the 1999 Caprili, and the Felsina - Fontalloro. The Rancia was mellow and yummie. The Caprili was close but slightly tighter/younger. The Fontalloro tasted dramatically different and I always wonder if it was bad. Not a winner.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
