Dark rich purple color. Refined spice in the nose. Wonderful silky fullness on the palate. Complex fruit and spice in great balance-black currants and berries.

From magnum; not decanted (didn't need it), just popped and poured. Bouquet of crushed berries, wood and mineral. Somewhat lightweight on the palate, but full of flavor, with currant, cherry compote and a fairly long, but slightly tart finish similar to cranberries. A wine with presence, from a great California vintage. It's hard to say how much longer this wine could hold out, because magnums age more slowly than 750ml bottles. That said, I would think magnums or larger could go another three or four years, but 750mls and smaller should be consumed now and will probably be past their prime within a year.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
