Ruby color. Ripe cherries and a little oak on the nose. On the palate wonderful cherries and soft ripe fruit, oak, plums, leather, dried herbs, a little dust and soft tannins. Terrific!

Drank the Felsina Rancia, then the 1999 Caprili, and the Felsina - Fontalloro. The Rancia was mellow and yummie. The Caprili was close but slightly tighter/younger. The Fontalloro tasted dramatically different and I always wonder if it was bad. This Rancia was clearly the winner.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
