Rather evolved crimson with a ruby, almost brick edge. Very sweet and alcoholic ? the main impressions at this stage. Something rather gamey and intriguing. Good acid balance but the tannins are perhaps a little slight for a great vintage port. Lots of medium term pleasure rather than indomitable ambition. Long enough.

One of the finest Warres I have ever tasted, this opaque purple-colored wine is made in a drier style (a la Dow), yet it is expressive, extremely full-bodied, with superb richness, purity, and well-integrated alcohol and tannin. It possesses a great mid-palate as well as impressive length. Tasters should take note of the wealth of peppery, licorice-scented and flavored raspberry and blackcurrant fruit. Look for it to be ready to drink in 10-12 years, and keep for 30+. This is a profound example of Warre vintage port.

A great surprise for the vintage. Displays fabulous concentration and complex character with it's layers of very sweet fruit, chocolate and cherry aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins. Long finish with plenty of grip. Beautiful wine. 13,000 cases made.

Medium ruby and much less extracted than the big guns in the lineup. The fruit is from the newly acquired Bom Retiro Poqueno. The focused bouquet of violets and cocoa lead to a feminine style of VP that is smooth and soft. However, the tannins rush to take over late in the game. There is a touch of alcohol on the afterburner finish, but these bottles were not decanted all that long. Nice chocolate edge on the aftertaste. Best to drink circa 2020-2025 when it should show about as well as the '77 Warre does today.

Bright rusty plum, pinkish rim. Heady Apricot Brandy. Hot but smooth. Good balance. Very pleasant.

Quite disappointing to me. Taste predominated by raisins and prunes. Very upfront sweetness and a bit hot for my taste. After that almost no body or finish to speak of. Not my favorite 1994 vintage port...

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
