Caymus Vineyards was founded in 1972 by the Wagner family in Napa Valley's Rutherford district. The Wagners originally immigrated to the San Francisco Bay area from Alsace in the late 1880s. We drank the 1994 Caymus Napa and the 1994 BV Latour side by side with the Kelley's over a nice BBQ dinner. Both wines showed good color, the Caymus was a little cloudy and both had lost some body. The Caymus was a little thin and had a green bell pepper flavor after it was first opened, this flavor faded as the wine opened up. Nothing great - the wine was well past its prime but for being 18 years old it held up. The BV showed a little better, medium body, dried fruit, rutherford dust and a light finish. No oak was left in either bottle.
