Chateau Rieussec is one of the few producers of Sauternes who approaches Chateau d'Yquem in terms of quality and consistency. Deep gold, mature. Honey, apricots, dried peaches, and tropical fruits, along with good dose of spice. Heavy and syrupy on the tongue. Very nice!

THE biggest disppointment yet of my short wine tasting experience. 1990 is supposedly a phenomenal year fot any Sauternes but I do not know what happened to this Second-in-Command, after Yquem of course, Sauternes. As opposed a well expected massive nose of typical Rieussec, this bottle was simply muted with limited aromas of pine apple, pear and citrus. Only improved a little bit over time. Tastes like a young Sauternes with a bit too much boytritis in the finish lacking depth and balance. Cork seemed fine and the bottle did not appear to be corked or damaged in spite of the tasting! A real disappointment after thinking this will be much better than 1999 Rieussec which I enjoyed greatly.
