This nicely mature with typical Lafite elegance. Red berry fruit with flowery notes. Tannins are nicely rounded. Soft and supple in the mouth. Well-balanced. Nice length to the finish with a pleasant spiciness and slight cigar box.

Subdued nose followed by with pencil lead and cedar on the palate. Tannis are still very firm and after two hours of air the fruit was still not expressive . This will need several more years to fully evolve.

We opened this and let it sit for 4 and a half hours before drinking. I tasted it a couple of times along the way. The wine evolved into a complex and fruity delight to the sense. we paired this with our cheese course, following a 2000 Marcassin.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
