Great Bordeaux! Med.-dark ruby w/amber edge suggesting mature but still youthful color; good vigorous, substantial wine on the nose w/black fruit and leather notes; similar flavors plus subtle haberdashery notes; ripe and rich on the palate; just coming into its own after two hours of decanting; full body and plenty of depth; lovely vigor & grip; long and complex finish; will still improve in the bottle.

Excellent balance and beautiful finesse. Such great aromas of plum and leather, along with delicate earth tones. The fruit structure is amazing and is holding up so nicely. It has a long finish with soft tannins and lively fruit with a wonderful purity about it. I highly recommend this gem of a bordeaux!!

RP: A massive wine that is cearly of first-growth quality in this vintage, the 1982 Gruaud Larose remains a youngster. A broodingly dense, thick, unctuously textured, inky/plum/garnet/purpoole color offersw up scents of beef blood, steak tartare, cassis, herbs, tobacco, and underbrush. One of the most concentrated wines of the vintage (as well as one of the most concentrated Bordeaux's I have ever tasted), it is a huge, full-bodiewd, weighty, rich wine whose tannins are getting silkier and silkier. It appears set for anohter 30-40 years of life. This behemoth is a singuarly profound example of Gruaud Larose that continues to justify its legendary status.

Wow. Beautiful ruby-garnet with slight ambering at the edges. Awesome nose of leather, tar, earth, meat and black fruit. On the palate, lots of acidity and mellow tannins, and big, mature black fruit with a complex, spicy (mint? herbs?) finish. Long finish. Plenty of spunk left in this wine, though time has clearly mellowed what must have been hard to drink a couple of decades ago. Takes a SOLID three hours in a decanter to really open up.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
