($150-$195) Good full red. Superripe aromas of roasted red fruits, chocolate and minerals. Dense, rich and chocolatey, but still youthfully vibrant and full of life. Classy and deep, with a complicating nutty note. A solidly structured wine that finishes with firm, ripe tannins and lovely persistence. Should last well.

Drink Dates 2000-2015

An amber edge to this wine's dark garnet/ruby color suggests approaching maturity. A fragrant, sweet nose of minerals, cherry jam, smoke, earth, cedar, and vanilla is enticing. Medium to full-bodied, with fabulously sweet fruit, a viscous texture, yet vibrant underlying acidity as well as surprising tannin and length, this is the greatest Canon produced over the last thirty years.

This has always been one of the great wines of the vintage and one of the greatest ever produced at this estate. Seriously dark ruby in color, with blackberry, earth and fresh floral aromas. Full-bodied, with full silky tannins and thick, ripe fruit. Still needs time.--1982 Bordeaux horizontal.

Had two bottles of this last night--still stunning! wonderful nose that lasted for over an hour--opened with notes of tar that quickly dissapated into cedar and dark red fruits. Wonderful deep red color. Elegant structure, yet still very soft and supple. This still has life left in it! It could easily last another 5 years, but why wait? Tasting better than the last bottle I had, about 3 years ago.

Nice aromas of fruit. Cedar flavor was a little odd (and overpowering) at first, but evened out some with air. This wine seemed past its prime.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
