This was still enjoyable, but probably peaked 5-10 years ago. Color was murky faded brick. Nose was a bit old newspaper such that I was worried it was corked. Palate was better than the nose and the best description is probably just "old Bordeaux." Earthy with some subtle sweetness. Tannins were depleted.

The colour was light ruby with significant browning; the nose was a bit musty at first but it soon gave off secondary aromas of sous-bois; while the tannins were completely gone, there was a suprising amount of delicate fruit on the palate, with wild strawberries being the dominant flavour; past its best but a very lovely old claret

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
