Sour cherry that is not becoming in this wine. Rather light to medium bodied and yet it complemented the food rather well. Not for sipping alone, though. |

Smooth and lush, with a ton of berry, cherry and smoke character. Supremely ripe and full, with chocolate and spice mixed into the prime cherry/berry palate. This is a wine for anyone who simply loves wine, maybe it isn't ultra-complex but there's no arguing about its polish and style. Drink 3 to 10 years |

Fresh ruby/garnet color, its plummy, well spiced, black cherry nose, and its concentrated intense flavors of red fruit, tar, and licorice, which possess an important continuity and length. It should provide excellent drinking until 2016 to 2018. |

Tried in 2006. Very lush, rich goes well with red meats. Some sediment already but will continue to improve with age. Try in 2008 |

Tasted June 8th, 2006

Sergio poured this wine for one oif his top clients, it is actually the second time I tasted this wine. The first time was in a Solaia vertical, but this go around I had the Il Poggione 1985 Brunello after it, which made me realize how much acidity the 1985 Brunello had and that this was a Solaia without Sangiovese. The smokey Cab duo flavors came through - this was an old Cab, dry gripping, chalky-like, fine sediment, aged beautifully. |

1985 Poggione - Brunello di Montalcino
Italy - Tuscany - Brunello di Montalcino 1985 Poggione - Brunello di Montalcino
|
Tasted June 8th:

Sergio poured this wine for one of his top clients, along with Solaia 1978. This wine showed more acidity, more sediment, and more age despite being younger. The sweetness turned to mushroom and earthy notes of wet earth. Weighty with an almost glycerine feel. In addition, I had this next to the IL pOggione 1998 Riserva, which came off to sweet like. The 1999 Riserva is the superior wine, but the 1985 shows me that this is not a wine with the longevity of Biondi Santi, that Talenti indirectly challenged. |

Tasted at Brunello Event at Wine House. Best Brunello tasted that nite! VERY small production-80 cases, only 4 cases imported into US. Berry/Cherry combination with oak flavors that lasted for a very long time. Worth the investment. Wait, wait, wait to enjoy. Very Special. |
