Slow od for 3 hours and then decanted for an hour. Dark ruby with the barest hint of lightening at the rim. Beautiful nose of dark fruits, menthol, tar and earth. In the mouth still firmly tannic, buffeted by strong acidity. Long, long finish. Long life ahead. I think more complexity will come as it ages; it tastes more like an 89 than an 82. Great wine. |

Slow-o'd for 5 hours, then drank over the following 2. Gorgeous nose of anise, black cherry, and violets, with a touch of earth. Still quite tannic in the mouth, though its well balanced by the fruit and acidity. Slightly dusty. Very good performance, and still a long life ahead. |

The 2001 has a translucent light to medium ruby hue with thin ever so slightly pigmented legs. A very aromatic and flashy nose of pure cherry, vanilla, mint, sweet oak, and a bit of earth. Gossamer elegance in the mouth with good acidity and apparently light tannin. Surprisingly approachable, drink now (2009) to 2015+. |

Deep black cherry red with lots of thin legs showing trace amounts of color. A still developing bouquet of smoky plum, black cherry, earth, beginning signs of the telltale tar and roses, slight mint, sandalwood, leather, and clay. Relatively low acidity with still firm tannin (not objectionably so but more rustic in nature than other top flight GAJA wines). Fine levels of concentration. Needs another seven years and will last for a decade thereafter. 1 of 1 people found this useful |

Classic nose of rose, tar, mint, and earth. Gaja has said that to love Barbaresco and Barolo one must love tannin. This wine epitomizes this comment because the wine carries quite a bit of hard angular tannin on its frame. The wine finishes with moderately length showing some earthy fruits beneath the tannic overlay. |

Dark ruby color with garnet rim. A distinct candied black cherry nose with vanilla, toast and lead pencil followed by hints of warming spice like anise or licorice. Super intense and with more dusty tannins than the bunnies collecting under my bed. The acidity is also intense but delicately balanced by the other flavors and tannins. Once the tannins melt away on the palate the wine reveal wonderful cherry, red currant and blackberry fruit flavors. The finish is medium long and you will discover more fruit and sweet black licorice at the end. Visit my website: St. Henry Brewery - brewing 'til the bitter end! |

Big Nebiollo personality. The blend offers a more easily accesible Piedmnont experience. The dark fruit is well integrated with the tannin and alcohol. Spice, tobacco and mushroom on the palate. Drink over the next 3-5 years |

Who drinks whites from Piedmont? Gavi? Nahh, Cortese is too bland. Well, to jumpstart a bit of immediate excitement, attach Giacosa to the label & thousands of ears will immediately stand at attention. Arneis, a grape that I've taken a bit of recent interest in, is harnessed wonderfully by Bruno, exhibiting a light golden hue and intricate complexities that should please fans of Chenin Blanc that lack the varieties requisite patience. Full of honeysuckle, hay, spearmint tea and freshly sliced apple notes that juxtapose a roundness of body w/ pinpoint cut and definition. The stainless steel fermentation and blocked malolactic really shine in this lovely diamond of a white Piedmont. Visit my website: Unidentified Appellation |

Delicious! Wow! Incredible depth of flavor and aroma. Right up there with Vintage Tunina on my list of best Italian whites I've tasted (at a much lower price). I'll get more of this. |
