We had this with Chilean Sea Bass on 4/5/09. It had a very pleasant bouquet of peach, pear, citrus and mint. The palate followed with tremendous grapefruit flavor...along with peach, pear, mint and mineral flavors. It had good acidity, was medium bodied and very enjoyable. I liked it very much. |

I opened & drank the second bottle with boiled shrimp on 11/2/09. It was very consistent with my previous notes except this time there was the addition of vanilla on both the nose and palate. |

Very comples, superb structure. Aromas were vey earthy, leathery, toasty cofee beans. Full body, very dark purple, dense, still 5yrs plus of fine enjoyment. Very long finish, in where the ripe fritnees dominates, along with nice oak integration. Simply very complex! |

This is a stunning wine. Nose of chocolate, and blackberry fruit and plum on the palate. Tannins and acid levels are well balanced. |

Very dirty wine and seemingly unbalanced. Cranberry, plum, dirt/earth/stem, saddle leather, mint leaf, coffee. Dusty tannins that coat the front of the tongue. Wine grew more balanced with air. Coarse/dry finish. |

We had this with a grilled T-bone steaks on 11/8/09. It had a fabulous bouquet of tobacco, cedar, cherry, mint and spice aromas. The palate was incredibly smooth, polished and balanced with cherry, jam, tobacco and spice flavors. This level of polish and balance that is extremely rare...what a great wine! |

At Convivio. Incredible nose. Smooth, very well integrated, a mix of earthy and dark fruits. At this stage it is all on the attack with a very short finish. i would say drink in another 10 years. |

I dont think this wine needs an introduction as it is one Parkers highest scoring wines in the history of the Wine Advocate but 2003 was very kind to Galardi. I cannot say enough about this wine as the vintage played right into their hands with a firm, cooling sea influence at night and the solar intensity of 2003 by day. The confluence of climate, sun and soil produced a beverage of immense stature that has the potential to be a legend. From Aglianico and Piedarossa this is as site specific as it gets with the volcanic ash of Mt. Vesuvius playing a big role in this coastal area near Naples. |

Terra di Lavoro (land of work ? named because the stony soil is difficult to work) is Campani's sole icon wine. Because it is from Campania it does not get the attention it deserves (although sadly there are enough informed consumers already to boost the price of the wine to the stratosphere.) The 20 acre vineyard is planted on the side of a volcano at 1300 feet above sea level. The wine receives 100% new French oak with medium toast aging (Allier & Nevers) for 12 months. Surprisingly ? especially given the wine?s might ? it is bottled after being fined and filtered. Talented Riccardo Cottarella has been the winemaker since the wine?s first vintage in 1993. The 2001 is black as night. It has a huge nose that one could mistake for a torrid vintage Cabernet from Bordeaux despite the wine being a blend of 80% Aglianico and 20% Piedirosso. Intense aromatics of vanilla, plum, clay, rose, mint, and oak. Very rich and incredibly concentrated with huge velvety tannin and excellent acidity. My score is attenuated based on my concern that the tannins may ultimately play too prominent of a role once this wine matures. Nevertheless, this wine is an experience not to be missed. |

The 2002 is completely opaque and is quite backward at present. With extended airing aromas of saddle leather, herbs, some oak, mint, and plum can be coaxed out. Fruit is deeply concentrated but locked up tight as a drum. Acidity is on the high side of the acceptable range. Tannins are formidable but not to the extent of the 2001. Its shocking that this wine is filtered before bottling ? despite its youth there is already caking along the side of the bottle. Even in small amounts the wine showed no degradation over a 48 hour period. Some bottle variation is noted. |

Wow this is tight and closed right now. Deep color, wild mushrooms, and not giving much else. Has all the right elements to be great in 5-10+ years. |
