Rhone style, delicious red. Gets better after being open a day or two. Imported by Kysela. Calatayud is considered a backwater region of Spain.

Juicy,raspberry, fruity, medium body, smooth, easy drinking.

Unscrewed and poured. Dark cherry, forest fruit nose, some good acid but not overwhelming, has great mouth-coating plum and blackberry flavors that then evolve into coffee and leather on the finish, showing off the Spanish terroir. Great value for $7. Calatayud is a real value area right now!

Great Grenache. Fruit forward, great balance, good picnic wine.

Juicy, medium to light-bodied, and straightforward, with notes of raspberry, strawberry, and bramble. There is a hint of carbonic maceration type flavor. I doubted the critics, but my palate has to agree: this is a standout for the price. [from 1.5L]

med body, good acidity, med finish...tasted like a priorat

Deep red color with purple highlights. A spicy nose of intense white and black pepper, milk, smoke, roasted plum, and violets. Smooth, lush fruit flavors in the mouth. A reasonably long finish that tastes mainly of pepper. 100% Garnacha (Grenache) from 146 acres of vineyards. The pepperiness that pervades all aspects of this wine reminds me of a Craiglee Shiraz quite a lot. Very well made and impressive but the rampant pepperiness is tiring after the first glass.

Good paring with red meats. One of the more solid vintages to date.

Deep purple, silky blueberry nose and taste. Big structure but smooth and integrated. Great with BBQ.

coconut and vanilla on the nose..reminds me of suntan lotion smell!! on the palate, extracted, but not out of balance. Definitely modern style wine.

Hello ? this wine just keeps growing and growing in the glass. I half expect it go over the sides as I sit here staring at it. Deeply colored with moderately pigmented slow moving legs. A strong nose of burgeoning, complex aromas of smoke, black licorice, deeply concentrated plum, some caramel, a bit of heat (but I can live with it considering how much else this wine brings to the table), a touch of spicy leather, black pepper, and controlled wood. Plush with excellent length. Tannins are completely drowned out by the wine?s concentration but make their slightly drying presence felt in the end. Plenty of acidity and one wishes it was better integrated. A dead ringer for a Sine Qua Non Grenache. Alto Moncayo is a new wine project from Jorge Ordonez (a Spanish wine importer deservedly well known for the quality of his products), Dan Philips (Marquis-Philips et al), and Chris Ringland (Three Rivers/Chris Ringland Shiraz). Aquil?n is their top end bottling. It is 100% Garnacha (Grenache) sourced from a small 125 year old ungrafted vineyard located at 750 to 900 meters above sea level. Malolactic fermentation was completed in all new French and American barrels and the wine was bottled without filtration.

Wow, really over the top, too much everything. This one was hard to swallow. Guess I lean more towards old world, not my style. Perhaps a few more years in the bottle will help, but I can't see how.

Full-bodied, deep colored grenache. Somewhat astringent at the finish. Good wine for a barbecue. Not as good as the 2004 or 2005.
