We drank this on with cheese on 8/12/08. It had aromas of honey, toffee, orange & tobacco...all of witch followed on the palate. The alcohol was very pronounced...far too much heat. I didn't like it |

Light in color, the nose is so complex and enjoyable I find my nose at the glass more than my lips. Nutty raw almond notes, combine with honeydew, sea breeze, buttercups(flowers), and fresh air! Delicate in the mouth while at the same time a bit zingy with a vibrancy that reminds me of a cold shower. White flowers, salted melon, and the sensation of fresh crush nuts mixed with the flor that protected the wine for so long. This wine is very enjoyable and the finish lingers in your mouth for what seems like forever. 4.5/5 |

We had this with Garidhes on 11/3/08. Because I had a severe cold, my nose and taste buds were not functioning properly. Consequently, my perceptions may not be completely accurate. When I first opened this it had an extremely tight nose and the flavors were very subdued. All I got was the alcohol. A few hours later it had really opened up and become quite nice. It had subtle aromas of almonds, crushed sea shells, ocean spray and a hint of vanilla. The palate followed with salt, nuts, vanilla and a little butterscotch on the finish. It had a very long finish (I didn't time it). This was very good. 1 of 1 people found this useful |

I found this bottle at a wine store, and was shocked -- I hadn't seen Manzanilla since my time in Spain over 10 years ago. It seemed to be fortuitous timing, as a friend was throwing a tapas-themed dinner party. I was excited to bring the bottle to the party, but was a bit disappointed once it was poured. Everyone expected sherry, but this very light tasting, almost briny Manzanilla was far different. It caught on after a while, but I think it would be better served a little more chilled, and with appetizers, as opposed to a dessert wine. Blonde in color--almost colorless. Apple, Green Olive, almost salt water taste. Light bodied. Smooth texture. Medium finish. |

Nuts and spice and everything nice. The nose is a mix of acetone, nuts, salt air, musty cellar and mixed brown spices. Smooth with a hint of sweetness and rich flavors of wood, cinnamon, raw nuts, cooked sugar, salt air and more. Smooth and soft in the mouth I only wish I was sitting down enjoying a sunset on the beach. Truely a great wine. 5/5 |

Pours and looks like Maple Syrup. Raisins with a hint of nuts on the nose. Chocolate giving way to crème caramel. Outrageously long and pleasantly round finish. Eighty years old and this may have another 3 decades to go? |

Light gold in color with hints of brown that move throughout. Caramely nose with brown sugar, maple syrup and roasted nut flavors. Salty with a strong acidity and roasted nut flavors. Hazelnuts, coated in honey and roasted with a touch of salt linger on my palate long after I finish this wine. 4/5 |

2003 Alvear, Pedro - PX Fino en Rama
Spain - Andalusia - Montilla-Moriles 2003 Alvear, Pedro - PX Fino en Rama
|
Light pale gold in color. Cantelope nose with faint honey notes, light honeydew and white grape hints. Pure and only at the beginning showing a bit of caramel. In the mouth this is a soft wine with a medium to high acidity that is bright and alive. Light salt air on the palate followed by melons, delicate peach and white grape. With some time there is a grassiness that seems to relate to the flor that once protected this fine wine. Full finish that lingers, but pulls you back sooner than expected. 4/5 |

2002 Alvear, Pedro - PX Fino en Rama
Spain - Andalusia - Montilla-Moriles 2002 Alvear, Pedro - PX Fino en Rama

Light yellow gold in color. The nose show's subtle wood notes, and light almond hints. Delicate melon and light citrus come in towards the end as it opens. Soft in the mouth with a gentle creaminess and rich nutty finish. Light steely notes at the end with a bit of the classic salt air. As it opens you start to see the melon and citrus notes but the nutty wood really is the main focus. Really a beautiful little wine though starting to show it's age some with the delicate mineral/fruit notes fading. 4/5 |

Light gold steely almost. The nose is a revelation for sherry wines showing pear, peach, and other haunting fruits that are difficult to pick out. Very dry in the mouth with an amazingly soft lush acidity. On the palate flavors of candied pear, light salt air, and a lingering soft finish make this one of the most fun wines I have tried in a long time. Bravo. 5/5 |

NV Alvear, Pedro - Oloroso Asuncion
Spain - Andalusia - Montilla-Moriles NV Alvear, Pedro - Oloroso Asuncion

Rich golden color with brown core. Carmely nose with fresh nuts, and pure vanilla bean aromas. Great acidity in this wine with a light sweetness that is balanced well. Sweet roasted nuts with touches of salt and cherry undercurrents give this wine character. Lingering long after the last sip flavors of caramel and cherries waft through my mouth. Awesome wine! 4.5/5 |

Very concentrated, unctuous dessert wine. Brown sugar sweetness framed by a nice nuttiness. |

2003 Alvear, Pedro - Pedro Ximenez
Spain - Andalusia - Jerez-Xeres-Sherry 2003 Alvear, Pedro - Pedro Ximenez

Golden light brown with a viscousity that I have not seen before, granted this is my first PX. Brown sugar with dried apricot and dare I say mango? Maple syrup maybe cherries, peaches baked with cinnamon and a strange ethereal overtone of salt air. Heavy, Heavy, did I mention heavy? Thick like maple syrup with a sweetness that lingers on and on and on and on....Cinnamon, fresh coffee, carmel, baked fruit(both peaches and apricots) and toffee. What I'm not getting is any nuttiness, but maybe a light oak. My mind wants to put nuts into it but my palate says no. Strong acidity throughout and a strange Honeydew flavor that comes through on the finish. Wow...interesting, not one dimensional at all, like many heavy stickies tend to be. I won't rate this till I have more, and while this is on the low end pricewise for PX's I can't imagine what better tastes like! YUM! |

2003 Alvear, Pedro - Pedro Ximenez
Spain - Andalusia - Jerez-Xeres-Sherry 2003 Alvear, Pedro - Pedro Ximenez
|
Thick burnt caramel color with a viscousity that makes motor oil look delicate. Made from dried grapes the nose of this is full of dried fruits from raisens to prunes to peach or nectarine. Soft nuts and caramel, along with very light wood polish all fill in around the fruits in the nose of this wine. In the mouth this wine sits thick on the palate though what makes me so excited is that fact that there is a ton of acidity helping to keep this wine fresh and alive in the mouth. The finish, well, I started this note on Saturday night and come Monday morning it's still lingering. As far as the flavors, think caramel, honey, molasses(light), myriad nuts, carrmelized peachs...all of this combined with notes of cinnamon, anise and cloves. The first time I had this it was one of the first PX's for me. Now that I've had many others, this one still is damn close to perfect! alt=5 |

What a great surprise this one was for about twenty dollars for the 375 ml bottle! Beautiful amber/dark honey colored with a nose of creme brulee, syrup, apricot and orange marmalade - with a sip of this wine you don't need dessert! |

NV Alvear, Pedro - Solera Cream

Very brown in color with rich core. Buttery nose with cinnamon showing and a bit restrained due to it's dense nature. Fully sweet without being cloying do to a medium high acidity. Candy like in the mouth with cherries and cream flavors followed by a creamy caramel sensation. Incredibly rich without being difficult to drink. 4/5 |
